The East African Community Single Currency —Achievable or just a Pipe Dream? #eamgtv #africa

The East African Community (EAC) is working toward introducing a common currency to enhance regional economic integration among its member states—Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Uganda. The goal is to establish a unified monetary policy and reduce transaction costs, facilitate cross-border trade, and stabilize exchange rates within the bloc. The East African Monetary Institute (EAMI), a precursor to the regional central bank, has been established to oversee the transition. While the target date has been postponed several times, the EAC remains committed to achieving a common currency to boost economic growth and competitiveness.
